    Most asked

Do you read or store my email content?

No, and the architecture is built so we can't. Our access scope is "read attachments and headers from messages that match a sender allowlist" — your shopping order, that DM from a coworker, the Notion link your designer sent you, all of it is invisible to us.

    Privacy & access

    01 / 06 · 4 questions
What permissions do you actually request?

For Gmail: gmail.readonly scoped to messages from senders on our public vendor allowlist. We can request attachments from those messages. We can't send mail, can't delete mail, can't modify labels.

    Where are receipts actually stored?

In your cloud — Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Box, depending on which you connect. We don't keep a copy of the PDF. We keep a small metadata record so the dashboard can show you what was filed, but the canonical file lives in your storage.

Are you SOC 2 / GDPR compliant?

SOC 2 Type II — yes, completed November 2025. Report available under NDA on request. GDPR — yes. EU customer data is processed only in EU regions.

Do you train AI models on my receipts?

No. Not on receipt content, not on email headers, not on filenames. Customer data does not enter any model.

    02 / 06 · 4 questions
Is the free tier really free, forever?

Yes. One inbox, one cloud, no time limit, no credit card required. We expect maybe 30% of free users to upgrade. The other 70% are welcome here forever.

What does Pro cost and what do I get?

$14.99/mo, or $149/yr (≈ $12.42/mo). Pro adds: up to 5 inboxes, custom rules, business/personal tagging, year-end ZIP export, priority support.

    What are Backfill Packs?

One-time purchases that sweep your inbox backwards. Tax Year ($29), 3-Year ($59), Lifetime ($99). Pay once, run once. No subscription required.

    Do you offer refunds?

Yes — 30 days, no questions, on Pro and on Backfill packs. If a pack already ran, we still refund — the work was done, the files stay in your cloud.

    Vendors & filing

    03 / 06 · 3 questions
    Which vendors do you support?

About 1,400 senders out of the box — every major SaaS subscription, payment processor, hosting provider, ride-share, food delivery, ad platform, app store, and US/EU utility we have seen come up at least three times.

    How do you name files?

The default pattern is [vendor]-[type]-[YYYY-MM-DD].pdf, with collision resolution adding the message ID short hash. On Pro you can override the pattern.

    What's the folder structure?

By default: /AutoFileEmail/Receipts/[vendor]/ — one folder per sender. On Pro you can pick from preset templates (by-month, by-quarter, by-year).

    Setup & accounts

    04 / 06 · 3 questions
How long does setup actually take?

About two minutes. One sign-in for your inbox (Gmail, Outlook, or IMAP), one for your cloud (Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox), confirm a default folder, and you are done.

    Which inboxes do you support?

Gmail (personal and Workspace), Outlook (Microsoft 365 and outlook.com), and IMAP for self-hosted.

    Which clouds do you support?

Google Drive, OneDrive (personal + business), and Dropbox.

    Backfill & history

    05 / 06 · 2 questions
How long does a Backfill take to run?

Tax Year (12 months) typically 10-30 min. 3-Year takes 1-3 hours. Lifetime on a heavy inbox: 4-8 hours. Runs in the background — we email when it finishes.

Will Backfill duplicate things I have already filed manually?

Backfill checks the destination folder for files matching the same sender + date + amount and skips them. About 95% accurate.

    Cancellation & data

    06 / 06 · 2 questions
    What happens if I cancel?

Filing stops. Your existing files in your cloud stay exactly where they are — they are already yours. We delete our metadata records 30 days after cancellation.

    Can I export everything?

The PDFs are already in your cloud — that IS the export. For metadata: a CSV of every filing event is one click in Settings → Export.

    Didn't find it?

    Ask a real person.

AutoFileEmail is built by one person, and that same person answers the support email. Average response time over the last 90 days is just under three hours.
